Creatures and More

From Stephen Wagner, your Guide to Paranormal
I have stated this before, I'm sure, but I really think there is a creature known as Sasquatch or Bigfoot out there. Even though the hard evidence is rare (there are many convincing footprints and some hair samples), I think the eyewitness accounts by believable people are quite convincing. I suspect the Patterson-Gimlin film is of a genuine Sasquatch, and although there are new videos appearing every year (see one of the latest ones below), they are frustratingly unclear. Let's hope we get some good, clear footage soon.

Video: Auburn-Haired Minnesota Bigfoot
This latest video worthy of a close look and analysis comes from the St. Paul area of Minnesota. It was shot with an iPhone on July 6, 2011 by a farmer and his wife, who were walking in the woods. They were alerted by a low grunting noise, which they at first thought was a deer. The video they shot reveals something else, however: what looks like an auburn-haired primate. Is it Sasquatch? Watch the video.

The World's Most Haunted Places
There are places where restless spirits manifest as eerie voices and strange perfumes; they move things; they creep out of the shadows as apparitions. Sometimes they even attack. These are the places that are considered the most haunted in the world.

The Dropa Stones
The story of the Dropa begins in 1938 in the Baian-Kara-Ula mountains on the border that divides China and Tibet. An archaeological expedition, led by Chi Pu Tei, has trudged into the barely accessible mountain range, and has happened upon some caves that had obviously been occupied by a primitive people long ago. But what he and his team find in these remote caves is something highly unusual and, if verified, could change everything we know about our distant past. Read more.

WELCOME TO THE NEW ISSUE OF THE NEWSLETTER!
17 AUGUST 2011

Let me start off this new edition of the newsletter with both a thank-you and an apology. First off, let me say thanks to the great group of people who joined us earlier this month for the weekend at the Bell Witch Cave in Tennessee. We had another great time this year, the weather held up perfectly and we really enjoying seeing old friends and meeting new people. I don't always get to go along on all of the overnight excursions that we do, so having such a nice group of people made the weekend worthwhile.

Thanks also to those who have responded so wonderfully to the new books that we have offered this summer -- from ILLINOIS HAUNTINGS to ILLINOIS MONSTERS and the new FLICKERING IMAGES book about the Avon Theater. When we are hearing constantly about how the book business is so terrible these days, it's great when we get such support from our readers. We are working hard to make the transition to the new world of publishing (check out the Whitechapel Press website for all of the new books available as Kindle titles) but we still believe that there is nothing like the feel of a good book in your hands! So, thanks again for your continued support!

And now the apology... which really goes out to all of our loyal readers outside of the Midwest. As fall approaches, you'll find that more and more of the newsletter will be centered on events and activities in Illinois. We know that most of you can't make it to these tours and events and hope you'll bear with us through the Halloween season. We'll try and make sure that we have plenty of other material for you if you don't mind hanging in there as we talk about our Illinois tours, ghost hunts and events at the haunted Avon Theater. And speaking of all of that..... here we go:

FRIGHT NIGHT DOUBLE FEATURE THIS FRIDAY NIGHT!
Join me at 8PM this Friday night, August 19, at the Avon Theater in Decatur, Illinois for the new version of FRIGHT NIGHT, starring Colin Farrell. Then, stick around (or just come for) the 10:30 screening of the original FRIGHT NIGHT for FREE! It's going to be a fun, spooky night at the Avon Theater!

ST. FRANCISVILLE RE-SCHEDULED!
Join me again on Friday night September 2 at the Avon for the FREE screening of the infamous ST. FRANCISVILLE EXPERIMENT, during which I will be providing a live, ongoing commentary on the behind the scenes of this unintentionally hilarious horror film. This is a one-time event -- I won't be doing it again -- so I hope you don't miss it!

ALTON HAUNTINGS TICKETS FOR SUBSCRIBERS ONLY!
Don't forget, newsletter subscribers will have access to ALTON HAUNTINGS ghost tour tickets 5 days in advance of the general public! As has long been our tradition, we start offering tickets to the general public on Labor Day night, but our loyal readers get first access to the best tours. Newsletter subscriber tickets for the Alton tours will go on sale starting Wednesday, August 31 -- just watch for the newsletter in your email to book your tours! Click Here to see the Fall Schedule in Alton!

TROY TAYLOR AT GREENE COUNTY DAYS IN ELDRED!
Another event was just recently added to my schedule -- I'll be speaking at the legendary Eldred House in Greene County, Illinois on September 11. As part of the Greene County Days weekend, there will be an assortment of live entertainment at the Eldred House and I've been asked to speak at 2PM on Sunday afternoon. This will be one of my only speaking appearances this fall, so if you can make it, I'd love to see you there! Click Here to see More about Greene County Days!

More events are featured in the newlsetter below, from the Fall Festival to Spookapalooza, FREE horror movies and much more! Hope to see you in person during the coming weeks and months!

OUR ANNUAL FALL FESTIVAL IS BACK!
October 1, 2011 in Lebanon, Illinois
Noon to 4:00 PM -- FREE Admission

Join the American Ghost Society for a special weekend to kick off the Halloween season! Celebrate the start of autumn in Lebanon, Illinois - “one of the most historic and haunted towns in Illinois” and be chilled by presentations on ghosts, hauntings, spirited locations, paranormal investigations and much more! Meet authors and speakers on strange phenomena, network with other ghost enthusiasts from all over the Midwest, join us for a special ghost tour or an overnight ghost hunt, sign up to win free door prizes & make this a haunted weekend you won't soon forget!

The annual kick-off to Halloween will be held in Lebanon, which is 25 miles east of St. Louis on Interstate 64. The free open house will be held at the local Visitor's Center, at
221 West St. Louis Street, right in the center of town. From noon till 4pm, your host, AGS-VP Len Adams and his cast of fellow paranormal researchers will keep you enthralled with tales of ghostly happenings. Our event runs at the same times as the town of Lebanon's own Fall Festival. From 9am to 5pm, the main street will be closed off for various venders and craftsmen. Unlike the burned hotdogs and warm soda served by Len in the past, you can get real food served in real restaurants in town! Many of these locations are featured on the Haunted Lebanon Tour, especially The Tapestry Room (Len's favorite). So come early and enjoy the town and plan to stay late and encounter the ghosts!

 After-Hours Events Include:
* Haunted Lebanon Tour with Len Adams
* Night at the nearby Original Springs Hotel in Okawville, Illinois
Check Our Details About these events on the website!

Speakers for the 2011 Fall Festival Include:
 * Len Adams: Host
For this year's event, host Len Adams will (as usual) be entertaining attendees with some of his ghost hunting exploits in Lebanon and the surrounding areas, many of which can't be heard on the Haunted Lebanon Tour!

* Troy Taylor: Hell Hath No Fury
The Supernatural, Suffering & Sins of Illinois' Female Spirits

A tragic look at some of the murdered, missing and mysterious women of Illinois and the strange hauntings that surrounded their deaths. From the stories of the Last Woman Hanged in Illinois, the Unsolved Murder of Mary Jane Reed, the death of Marion Lambert and of course, Illinois' Most Elusive Ghost -- Resurrection Mary! A brand new presentation for the Fall Festival!

* John Winterbauer: Haunted Decatur
Stories of ghost and hauntings from Central Illinois and the Spirits, Scandals and Sins of Decatur!

* Tim Harte: Searching for Hauntings

From Stephen Wagner, your Guide to Paranormal
There might be nothing supernatural or even out of the ordinary about cattle mutilations, but what is curious about some of the more extreme cases is that we do not have definitive answers for them. Why not? The most reasonable explanation of predators just does not satisfy the circumstances of some mutilations, and so they remain a mystery. See this week's news for the latest case. Also this week, read about the amazing Tunguska incident, plus a very strange report from one of our readers about a disturbing found item... that disappears!

Meteor showers... and mysterious devastation
Most meteors burn up completely in the atmosphere, but on very rare occasions, they strike buildings, cars, even people. Even more rarely, if they are large enough, they cause devastation. Is that what happened on June 30, 1908 when something exploded over the Tunguska region of Siberia, flattening trees over a 850 square mile area? There are many theories as to the mysterious cause, a meteor or asteroid being one of them. Some other theories are pretty far out. Read all about it.

Reader Report: Nazi Artifact Time Slip
"I had a very weird experience when I was 15 years old," reports Athena. "My mom and I had just moved into a house in New Jersey. After everything was unpacked, I went into my new room. I noticed something I didn't recognize sitting on my shelf -- a wadded-up red banner. I unfolded it and saw that it was a Nazi banner from World War II...." Read the rest of her report.
