From Stephen Wagner, your Guide to Paranormal
Easter is one of those holidays in which angels figure prominently (Biblically anyway), so you'll find some angel encounter stories from readers in this week's feature. And would you believe some people claim to have actually seen the Easter Bunny?! Check that out as well as some other true paranormal experiences that occurred on Easter. Enjoy your week and eat as much chocolate as you want.

Encounters with Angels
Angels are firmly established characters in the Judeo-Christian faiths, mentioned many times in both the New and Old Testaments. Most often they are just messengers ("angel" means messenger), but many believe that angels are spiritual beings who watch over us and sometimes come to our assistance in times of need. As you'll see in these stories, the presence of angels can be a powerful feeling or, perhaps, can even appear as kind and helpful human beings. Consider these experiences.

Easter Bunny Sighting
"When I was about seven, I used to be curious about the Easter Bunny," says Mike. "So one night I pulled an all-nighter. All of a sudden I heard hopping downstairs. I was confused; I didn't hear the door open. Then I heard something hop up the stairs. I started to pinch myself: yes, I was awake and cold and I started to sweat, a bit overwhelmed. The hopping noise was coming up the stairs...." Read the rest of Mike's story.

The Creature of the Dump
Sometimes it's difficult to believe your own eyes. When people encounter a thing they cannot explain - something completely alien to their experience - they tend to doubt their own senses at first. When Paula M. went to the dump site in search of old, collectible bottles, the last thing she expected was an encounter with an unknown animal. She has never been able to discover what it was -- and neither has anyone else. Read Paula's story.

Why the Shroud of Turin is Fake
I have my own theory for why the much-revered and highly controversial shroud is not the burial cloth of Jesus - or anyone else for that matter. A casual observation and a simple experiment can show that the shroud is almost certainly a painting. Read more.

Why the Shroud of Turin is Fake
Many people fervently believe that the Shroud of Turin is the burial cloth of Jesus of Nazareth, its image miraculously created by the energy of his resurrection. Others suspect that it is merely a clever medieval forgery. And both sides have their own "compelling evidence." I have my own theory for why the much-revered and highly controversial shroud is not the burial cloth of Jesus - or anyone else for that matter. A casual observation and a simple experiment can show that the shroud is almost certainly a painting.

Puzzling Time Slip Road Trip

I had made this trip a half dozen times by myself in the past. I always chose to drive at night because there was less traffic, less road construction, too...." Read the rest of his weird experience.

Troy Taylor & Avon Theater to Host “The Innkeepers”!
April 13 & 14, 2012 – 10:30 PM

As ghost buffs know, there is a thin line between true horror films and slasher and gore films – and nowhere is that more clear than when it comes to “ghost films”. There are a lot of bad ones and then there are the very good ones, like “The Orphanage”, “The Haunting” and a number of others. So often, horror films try to do too much – too much blood, too many cheap scares and too many tired old plot devices that we have seen a thousand times before. As ghost film aficionados know, more suspense (and real terror) can come from a spooky location, haunting music, eerie camera work and good editing.
In the midst of a lot of bad horror movies, there are a few titles that are finally starting to shine. One of them was last year’s “Insidious”, which took a frightening premise and without splashing blood all over the screen, truly scared us. A film like that shows that a new generation of suspense masters are getting back to the classic styles of the ghost genre and now another film as joined the ranks of the new wave of ghostly horror – “The Innkeepers.”

The director, Ti West, is a member of the new generation and his film is a modern taken on a classic ghost story. The film is set at the Yankee Pedlar Inn, which after 100 years of service is closing its doors for good. During its final weekend, two employees who are determined to reveal the hotel’s haunted past begin to experience disturbing events as they learn that some of the hotel’s past guests checked in but really never checked out.

“The Innkeepers” is written, directed and edited by West, who in only a few short years is making a name for himself in the genre. He came up with the idea for “The Innkeepers” while staying at the real Yankee Pedlar Inn and learning of its true haunting history. He was at work at his 2009 film “The House of the Devil” and began hearing stories of the hotel’s haunting. When members of the crew had actual experiences in some of the haunted rooms, he became determined to bring the story to life on-screen.
Filmed on location, the cramped passages and fading glory of the real-life inn make the film even more unsettling, forcing comparisons to the books of Stephen King and “The Shining.” It also features a number of likable (realistic) leads including Sara Paxton, Pat Healy, Lena Dunham and Kelly McGillis.

The two nights at the Avon Theater will be the first time the film has played on-screen in downstate Illinois. “The Innkeepers” premiered last year at the South by Southwest Festival and only began playing in theaters on a limited basis earlier in 2012. Ghost movie buffs will have the chance to see the film for FREE on Friday, April 13 and Saturday, April 14. Both shows begin at 10:30 PM and will be hosted by author Troy Taylor.

Don’t miss your chance to see one of the best ghost films to come along in years – and to see it at our real-life haunted theater!
