From Stephen Wagner, your Guide to Paranormal
I would have no problem staying in the haunted room of a haunted hotel, motel, or bed & breakfast. If I did, in fact, I would be disappointed if nothing happened. How about you? See the poll below. And after you make your reservations, check out the fascinating reader report about a vanishing man. There's also the week's paranormal news and lots more to get scared about. And next week, get ready for an invitation to participate in our annual Halloween costume contest!

The Disappearing Man
Reader Anna reports on an experience she had on one recent evening. While waiting to cross a street, she saw a man on the other side, also waiting to cross. In the split-second it took for a bus to pass between them, the man vanished without a trace. Read Anna's story as well as several other true accounts of mysterious, unexplained disappearances.

Poll: Are you brave enough to sleep in a haunted hotel?
Many people are planning haunted vacations in October and the weeks leading up to Halloween. So I pose the question to you: Would you ever stay alone in the haunted room of a haunted hotel? Take the poll.

News: Cryptid Footprints, Witch Skeleton, Ghost Footprints
Possible orang-pendak print... "Witch" skeleton found... Ghost's footprint detected... Take a Halloween vacation... Dark twin of Earth in sky claimed... Possible explanation for some residual hauntings
Here is my reaction to an article that suggest that some old buildings, with their lead-paint walls, iron framing, and old wiring, could act like giant audio recorders -- and that this might be responsible for some residual hauntings and EVP. It's an interesting idea, but I have my doubts.

NEW BOOK FROM OLYVE HALLMARK ABBOTT & WHITECHAPEL PRESS!
Whitechapel Press is proud to present our first Texas book and the first book from long-time Texas author Olyve Hallmark Abbott, who has written several previous books about ghosts in the Lone Star State. The new book will be officially released on October 3, but our newletter subscribers are being offered advance sales on this new title! Click Here to Order your copy of the new book and help spread the word about this great new title!

LONE STAR GHOSTS
TALES OF TEXAS HISTORY & HAUNTINGS
Ghost stories have long been an essential part of the history of Texas, a place where unique history, blood and violence all go hand-in-hand. First-hand accounts of encounters with the spirit world have been a part of the lore of the Lone Star State since the first settlers arrived and made the land their own. Few authors have managed to capture the haunted side of Texas in the way that Olyve Hallmark Abbott has done with her previous books about the paranormal side of the state. In this rowdy and rollicking book, she gives the readers the chance to take a haunted road trip around the state, from the cities to the small towns and the open plains. With dozens of new stories, she presents a spooky chronicle of the ghosts from haunted universities, prisons, jails, courthouses, libraries, railroad depots, museums and more! Lone Star Ghosts is no re-hash of classic ghost stories but a personal account of Texas haunts as only one of the state’s great ghost story collectors can present it! Featuring the true history behind familiar and little-known locations, you’ll soon discover that there isn’t a corner of the state where spirits of the past don’t linger! $15.00

FREE HORROR MOVIES AT THE AVON THEATER THIS HALLOWEEN!
Want to be scared this Halloween season? Join us on Friday and Saturday nights at the Avon Theater in Decatur, Illinois as Troy Taylor hosts the 2011 FREE Halloween movie collection! Visit the Haunted Decatur page under "events" to see a detailed list of films for this year!

AMERICAN HAUNTINGS EVENTS JUST ADDED!
In the last edition of the newsletter, we told you about two brand new events that had been added to the schedule for 2012 -- the Haunted Weekend at the Elms in May and the Night at the Lemp Mansion, which will be February 19. Now, we have a new location that has just been added to the roster for October 23 --- in just a few weeks -- in Springfield, Illinois at the Virgil Hickox House, which is also Norb Andy's, one of the most infamous haunted houses in the city! Click here for details about the Night at Norb Andy's and don't wait too long to register, it's already filling up!

 SPOOKAPALOOZA 2011!
We hope you're making your plans for Spookapalooza 2011 at the haunted Lincoln Theater in Decatur! It's going to be the biggest Halloween party anywhere around -- and proceeds go to benefit St. Jude Children's Research, so why not have a great time and benefit a worthwhile charity while you're doing it! From Stephen Wagner, your Guide to Paranormal
I had my own benign poltergeist experience many years ago, so I can only get a vague inkling of what Laura says she experienced. Don't miss her story below in this week's feature. We also have a new addition to our ever-growing gallery of haunted colleges, the week's paranormal news, and a really bizarre report from one of our readers. (Hey, only about a month to Halloween!)

The Haunting of Laura
Many paranormal researchers think that poltergeist activity arises out of the subconscious of a living person, called an agent. This agent usually is known to be under stress, whether it is emotional, physical or psychological. By some mechanism that is still unknown, turmoil inside the body and mind of the agent becomes a physical reality in the form of unexplained sights and sounds, objects thrown about, and more. The case of Laura B. might very well qualify her as a poltergeist agent, where the trauma and fear of a broken home materialized in an outburst of terrifying phenomena. This is Laura's story.

Haunted Colleges: St. Joseph's College
Founded in 1803 by Elizabeth Seton as a girl's school, St. Joseph's in Emmitsburg, Maryland has been added to our gallery of haunted colleges and universities. During the Civil War, the campus served as a field hospital for injured soldiers. The ghosts of agonized troops and attending nurses have been seen and heard on the school grounds, as well as the ghost of Mother Seton herself.

Who the heck is Gary Jamison?
"This happened to me in June, 2010 in Ainsworth, Nebraska," reports Steve about this incident of high strangeness. "I wanted to make a rice pudding but didn't have any milk. So I got in the car and went to the store to get some milk for my pudding. I parked the car and went into the store and bought the milk...." That's how Steve's very strange experience began. Read the rest of his report... then tell us your own story.

About Paranormal: The Mystery of Ball Lightning

From Stephen Wagner, your Guide to Paranormal
Ball lighting isn't generally considered to be a paranormal phenomenon, but it does fall solidly into the category of "Unexplained". And the stories of encounters with this mystery are as bizarre and fascinating as any ghost or poltergeist experience. See this week's feature. There are also some very interesting new photos of "impossible fossils" as well as a possible new pic of the Loch Ness Monster.

The Mystery of Ball Lightning
Ball lightning is so mysterious that for a long time many scientists doubted its reality. Today most physicists accept that it is a genuine phenomenon, but are still at a loss to explain how it forms, how it maintains its shape, how it moves, and how it seems to "behave" -- sometimes as if it is under intelligent control. Here are some bizarre true stories.

Impossibly old footprints
Here are a couple of fossils to shake up the current scientific view of anthropology, paleontology and possibly geology as well. These imprints might easily be mistaken for footprints you'd find today on a beach or a muddy sidewalk, but they are, in fact, fossils -- very old fossils. The shoe print was found in granite estimated to be 15 million years old, and the bare footprint was discovered in strata estimated to be 290 million years old! Impossible, right? But there they are. Read more about them in the Ancient Anomalies gallery.

New Loch Ness Monster photo
A new possible photo of the Loch Ness Monster has surfaced, as reported by the U.K.'s Mail Online. Jon Rowe, a fish farmer from Lewiston in Drumnadrochit, Scotland, was actually taking a picture of a rainbow that had formed over the lake, but then noticed the two large humps projecting out of the water, which quickly disappeared beneath the waves. Rowe is convinced that he has photographed Nessie. Go look.
