And this website is a reminder that these are very real mysteries: ghost and haunting phenomena, weird creatures, psychic disturbances, and the unexplained. They aren't just things that happen at this time of year... they take place every day on this planet. And that's what we're all about. And hey! We have winners in our Halloween Costume Contest! Check it out!

The Lost Meaning of Halloween
All Hallow's Eve, Hallow E'en, Halloween, Day of the Dead, Samhain. By whatever name it has been called, this special night preceding All Hallows day (November 1st) has been considered for centuries as one of the most magical nights of the year. A night of power, when the veil that separates our world from the Otherworld is at its thinnest. Find out more.

Evidence for an Ancient Civilization?
Filmmaker Raul Julia-Levy is offering this photo as evidence for a highly advanced, unknown, pre-Mayan civilization that he says suggests contact with extraterrestrials. The photo was taken in jungles of southern Guatemala in the 1930s, according to Julia-Levy and shows a 51-foot-tall, beautifully carved head, possibly of a female, with face turned toward the heavens. He says it dates back to between 3,500 and 5,000 B.C.

October 28th - Countdown to Halloween

HAPPY OCTOBER 28th EVERYONE!

In the life of a ghost site, this time of year the number of visitors grows daily and the site gets "scary" busy :) Autumn, Halloween and crisp leaves are enough to set the mood. Ghost story favorites, haunted places and chilling movies are good starters. Enjoy the season!

Is Halloween Really More Haunted?
Ghosts, the Paranormal, and This Time Of Year

Halloween and the various types of celebrations we hold at this time of year shout loudly of haunted places and ghostly goings-on. For parts of the world that experience the cooler temperatures of autumn with its crisp leaves and earlier sunsets. Does this time of year really invoke more activity from beyond the grave? Does fall actually usher in a time when the "veil" between the worlds is at its thinnest? Is Halloween a day that means anything to spirits; or is it a man-made holiday with no foundation in spirit wisdom?

For various historical glimpses into the holiday of Halloween - http://www.psychicpen.com/samhain.html
and - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Halloween

From the many people I've talked with regarding the feelings of this season, it doesn't seem to matter much whether the temperature is warm or cool, cold or clammy. This time of year has the edge of mystery...of the unseen. Many ghost seekers find that hot temperatures increase paranormal activity. And still others find the days surrounding Christmas are highly active; the theory being that all the negative energy creates receptive fields.

Whatever the season, whatever the time of day, spirits are among us. Their energy, their personalities and often their love comes through at various times of year. But I genuinely feel that the sensation of "spooky" at this time of year helps them along, opens the doors and invites them in.

Haunted Highgate Cemetery
Like many of England's most famous places, Highgate Cemetery in Highgate, London is perhaps one of the most actively haunted cemeteries in the UK. Opened in 1839, Highgate serves as the final resting place of a long list of famous people including Douglas Adams, Karl Marx and Radclyffe Hall. Highgate Cemetery boasts ghost sightings, vampires, aliens and botanical splendor.

Weekly Reading List

Hey folks! Thanks for checking out the site! I'm currently int he process of getting some awesome ghost stories for you all to read on the site, which I will try to schedule for posting the first Tuesday of every month. However, I've decided to post, every week, what sort of things I'm reading.

Don't expect this list to change so often, as it sometimes takes me quite a while to read a book.

Currently Reading: Ghosts. A great book, its huge, like 500+ pages, and really cheap. The stories are not so scary, but rather interesting, because the author claims them to be true.

From Stephen Wagner, your Guide to Paranormal
The Halloween Costume Contest is officially closed, and I have to tell you that this is the best year ever. I have received pictures of some absolutely amazing costumes. I will be sharing them with you on Halloween or shortly thereafter. They're great! In the meanwhile, take a look at the terrific photo sent in by a reader taken back in the 1990s. Is that the ghost of a little girl?

Little Ghost of the Lake picture
"I took this picture of my husband fishing at a very remote lake, Dorothy Dunn, in northern Wisconsin," says Elizabeth of a very interesting photo that she sent in. "The lake has no boat launch and no homes are on the lake. We had to hike in to the lake through brush and weeds." Yet the image seems to show a little girl standing nearby, and Elizabeth is certain they were alone. Go look!

Reader Report: Disappearing fork
Zachariah tells us of a mysterious experience in which a fork he had just laid down simply vanished. I had a similar experience with the lid of a Pringles can. Read about these experiences and others. Has it ever happened to you?

The Scariest Games
Are you planning a Halloween party? Think carefully before you choose "games" or activities that are on the edge. These are paranormal games that are played in the dark of night, and can have unexpected, even terrifying results. Some are so frightening, they shouldn't be played at all. Try "Light as a Feather, Stiff as a Board," the Ouija board, "Bloody Mary" and spoon bending at your own risk.

From Stephen Wagner, your Guide to Paranormal
Do you have plans for Halloween? Hosting or going to a Halloween party? Handing out goodies to the trick-or-treaters? Staying home and watching a spooky movie? Whatever your plans, just be sure you have good, safe fun. In the meantime, enjoy the eerie Halloween stories below, some scary paranormal party games, and more ghoulish delights. And here's one more reminder to send in your Halloween costume pictures for our contest. The deadline is Wednesday, October 26.

Three Creepy Tales of Halloween
There's a reason that Halloween takes place in autumn: twilight comes early, the air is chilled, the trees shed their decaying leaves, and the earth prepares for its dark sleep... for death. It's no wonder we all get creeped out this time of year. We become more aware that there are things -- unknown things -- out there in the dark. Here are three true stories of Halloween-time encounters with the unexplained.

Those devilish black-eyed kids!
One of the best things about Halloween is the arrival of little costumed trick-or-treaters at the door. But there definitely is a group of strange-looking kids that you don't want knocking at your door, whether it's Halloween or any other time of year -- the eerie, mysterious black-eyed kids. Are they just creepy people with black contact lenses who like to freak us out? Or are they something darker... not of this world? Here are some reader encounters with these creepy things.
