The hauntings continue as we return for our 18th year to uncover the spirits, scandals and sins of Decatur, Illinois -- one of the most haunted towns in the Midwest! The Haunted Decatur Tour began in 1994 when there were very few ghost tours anywhere in the country, let alone in Illinois, and it continues today with more history and more hauntings than ever before. Starting now, we are offering newsletter subscribers the chance to get their tickets a few days before the general public. You can see the dates for the various Haunted History and Ghost Hunter's Tours on the Haunted Decatur Website but then use the private link above to order tickets, which is not yet available to the general public!

HAUNTED DECATUR -- REGISTER NOW FOR FALL 2011!

In 1854, Colonel Dan Conklin started a whiskey distillery, racetrack and a whorehouse on the outskirts of Decatur and the city earned the first of its unflattering nicknames -- "Hell's Half Acre". It would go on to earn others, including the "Second Most Corrupt City in Illinois" in the 1920s, and would gain infamy as a place where murder, bootlegging, prostitution, kidnapping, gambling, corruption in city government and, of course, ghosts were commonplace. But Decatur's dark origins can be traced back to the earliest days of the city, when the original settlers built over the top of Native American burial grounds that were scattered throughout the downtown area of what would become Decatur. The destruction of these burial mounds cast a mysterious pall over the city -- a darkness that continues to linger today.

The Haunted Decatur Tour was created by author Troy Taylor in 1994 and is downstate Illinois' original ghost tour. It's one of the longest-running in the state and has won several awards for being one of the most authentic in the Midwest. The tour continues today and takes a look at the darker side of the city -- revealing murders, scandals, sins and spirits -- that you won't find in most history books. It's an shadowy look at the reason that Decatur has earned its sordid reputation and a celebration of the unusual history that has placed Decatur squarely on the map as one of the most haunted cities in America!
Join us as we uncover the secrets that you aren't supposed to know... Introduce you to a legacy of crime, murder and death that you were supposed to forget about... And reveal haunted places that you can only find in Haunted Decatur!

Tickets go on sale to the general public this Saturday, September 17 at the Avon Theater in Decatur, Illinois. Tickets will be available between 9:00 AM and 11:00 AM ONLY! Even if you have your tickets, join us for a FREE showing of the long unavailable "Haunted Decatur Film" that was released back in 1996! The show starts at 11:00 AM and is FREE and open to the public.
